Burn After Reading (LINK)
September 1st 2008 16:38
Coming out on September 12th along with The Women remake is Burn After Reading another offering from the Coen Brothers. This one stars such heavy hitters as George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Francis McDormand, John Malkovich, and Tilda Swinton, all Oscar winners or at least Academy Award nominees. So how can this one fail? Who knows except to say the early buzz surrounding this film claims it is not too funny or all that cleaver. In other words, Fargo it ain't! Anytime you have Brad Pitt in a film and his name is Chad you can be certain there is a problem here. After the critical success of No Country For Old Men it's as if the Coen Bros. just had to show the world they didn't want that kind of responsibility. So they give us another comedy spy film with Brad Pitt playing Chad.
But worry not, it should make some bank just because a lot of ladies out there will pay good money to go sit in a darken theater and watch Clooney and Pitt on a larger than life screen uninterrupted for a few hours. A truly Calgon-take-me-away moment. And who can fault them for that? Given the choice of phones ringing, children screaming, laundry to be done, dogs barking, and mother threatening to visit......I would choose a Coen Bros.film too. Watching one beats living one!
