Aiden returns with their fourth album, Conviction, due out in August. This album brings about a more toned down Aiden, but the band still delivers. wiL’s vocals still stand at the forefront with amazing support from the guitars and drums. There is a lot of give and take on this album in which wiL demonstrates his ability to turn over control to his band and let them lead away and they back off at just the right moments to bring his vocal stylings to the front. This album doesn’t feel as angry as Our Gangs Dark Oath or even Rain In Hell, but it has it’s moments.
Previous albums have been primarily cover songs, but Aiden brings Conviction to the forefront of what just may be a new era for the band. It’s full of change and emotion that wiL carries off beautifully with his vocals that demand your attention and band support that doesn’t overwhelm, but accentuates each moment of the song with perfect ambiance.
The song that stands out the most on this album is Believe. This song gives you a look into the struggles that one faces day to day and how we overcome such struggles by believing in ourselves or having someone believe in us just enough to want to pick ourselves up and move forward. The backup vocals by the band on this put the right emphasis on the much needed harder moments of the song. It’s beautifully arranged and definitely gets your attention.
One Love gives Aiden a somewhat Depeche Mode combined with The Cure sound and yet somehow they manage to make it completely their own. It’s as close as you’ll get to a ballad type song from Aiden, but it’s got a great sound that has your foot tapping along from start to finish.
Aiden fans will appreciate the dedication to the bands true style as well as the bands ability to branch out and pull it off successfully. The new album stays true to their roots lyrically, but brings a bit of a softer sound that accelerates into traditional hard Aiden where necessary as if it was put there for emphasis and they pull it off beautifully. This is a must have for your collection. Get out and see this band live, you won’t be disappointed.
